It's true. I think even guys should do it. Are you up for the challenge? Go get yourself a pee stick and...here's a novel thought...pee on it. And if you post a pic of it, you'll get a special prize.
Come on...just do it. Humor me.
So I bought something the other night called a Saliva Scope (I'll post a pic of it soon) and what is does is determine a woman's fertile period through looking at her DRIED SALIVA. I know. So I spit on the microscope and let it dry for 10 minutes. After it dries I then proceed to press a button they like to call the "illumination light." I look through the microscope and if I see what looks like a fern pattern then I'm fertile (aka: have sperm, will travel), and if I see a cluster of fragmented dots then I'm considered not fertile (aka: mission-kill sperm). So the last couple of days I've used it and all I have to report is some "partial ferning," which basically means nothing. Know why? I read the disclaimer at the back of the instrucion booklet which told me that all obeservations are subject to the viewers interpretation, which means if I want to be fertile then I am, regardless if I really am or not. So my review for the ovulation Saliva Scope: Fun resource, but I wouldn't reccomend using it alone to chart fertility signs.*sigh* The things we do to ourselves to bring children into this world. Nevermind the things they do to us while we grow them, hatch them, and raise them. It's enough to drive you crazy!!!
And I think I'm there. I've gone beyond the crazy point...I'm probably somewhere close to the criminally insane mark, or the "get her in a straight jacket now" mark. And why shouldn't I be? If you can't have a little fun with life's challenges, then you might as well bury a hole six feet deep and crawl into it, because you'll never survive. Well, you might but you'll sure as heck be miserable.
And so...want to humor me? What else do you think I could put on my microscope to see what it looks like magnified? I've got a few ideas myself that I plan on testing out ;) If you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know, and I'll take a look and tell you what I see...
Well that's all the interesting ttc facts I have for today. Anymore and I'd probaby scare you away with my sickening transparency. My prayer is that all this transparency will somehow speak to someone else, perhaps even in my same situation. You never know who reads these things...
I'm a firm believer in that whatever doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. I stand here today a stonger woman because of what the Lord has allowed me to go through, and not by my strength, but the the grace of God.

The way I see it, if we're going to pee on sticks, we might as well stick them under the microscope!
I have a saliva scope. It worked for us. Got preggo first cycle. I was charting, too, though...and doing all the other necessary "checks" to know what was what. I had a lot of ferns! :)
I just found your blog, and found it quite interesting. My husband and I have been trying for several months. Where did you find a saliva scope? Maybe we'll try that next.
Jess, Hey, I just wanted to recommend a book that would be really good for you to read, if you haven't already. I've learned so much about Women's fertility in the past couple years, and especially now that I'm back in school (To become a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, basically an OBGYN Nurse Practitioner). This book explains in detail exactly how a woman's cycle works, and helps you to know exactly when you typically ovulate. This is how I diagnosed myself with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (which was later confirmed and have been treated for it for about a year now). Try it out; the name of the book is
"Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. This book has been helpful not only to me, but others that you would know as well.
Don't go crazy- God's got it in control!!! :-)
Love,
Angela
Excellent reccommendation, Angela! Expensive, I always thought, but very thorough! Also, you used to be able to get the scope at target, but they clearanced them at our store (that's why I got mine), but I think wal-mart still has them!
Hey, I have that book and I LOVE it!!! It's been a life saver in my journey. A friend of mine has it now (I gave it to her and after trying for a while she got pregnant first time)but I'm planning on getting it back soon. Another book that I've ordered is called Supernatural Childbirth, by Jackie Maize (sp?)...I'll let you all know what I think of that one. It should be here in the next week or so. And to my anonymous poster ;) I found my saliva scope at wal*mart and it cost about $19...I think it's worth it really. I found out why I was only getting parial ferning, too....I wasn't adjusting the microscope enough....yup that's me:) God bless you in your journey sister, and if you like email me and we can keep in touch!!
