"Hello, fatty??" Is That Allowed??

Okay, so this lady came up to me yesterday at a party I was at (a lady whom I don't know very well at all) and said to me, "Hello fatty." Had she had known anything about me, she would have known NEVER to say that to me. While I can understand where she's coming from (I am preggo after all) I cannot understand what possessed her to say that. Some things are better left unsaid. THAT is one of them. And so I laughed it off and pretended like it really didn't bother me, but I guess it did....because I'm STILL talking about it! Then again....sometimes you have to pick your battles...and this sure as heck isn't going to be one of them.

On the bright side....people like to touch my tummy, and I don't mind.....yet. AND.....

(drum-roll please)
1 day of babysitting left.

I would have punched her. The lack of tact that some people have absolutely AMAZES me.

*shakes head*... some people. Look at the evidence of God's grace in your life though. That's always a perk. :) And I love the bump!!

you're beautiful as always :-) I think I would have slapped her, and asked what her problem was. Atleast that is what I would have wanted to do.....in my heart I would have done that, totally!

I'm super excited for you guys. Baby #2 will be just as wonderful as Gabe.

I had a friend who was heavier before she had a baby and everyone always thought she was "ready to pop" when she really wasn't even close. It hurt her feelings as well.

In general, people should only say positive things when you are preggo.

Plus--You were NEVER a fatty (unlike Adam who's nickname in H.S. was "big fatty")

Shrug off her annoyingness.
Argh.. Where is common sense?

You know, I've never been called "fatty" but I can relate to having a hard time with things when people make comments about my personal appearance. I predict that should I ever be able to experience pregnancy that some older people in my church will think I look just right because I get comments from them about being too thin.

As for the lady calling you that, I don't know what she was thinking, because #1 - No pregnant lady should be called "fatty", and #2 - YOU LOOK INCREDIBLE GIRL!

I'm so happy for you and your hubby!

Know me? Maybe not - old BBCer. Anywho. The words "fat", "fatty", "fatter", ...and anything related should never be used in conversation with a prego mama. b/c like Sarah said
A. you are not even close to fat
B. You look super cute
C. Being prego allows you the opportunity to grow in beautiful ways.

P.S. When I was prego my friend's husband (sans kids) said "Holy crap your HHHUUUGEEE, how much longer do you have to go" As if it was agonizing for him to watch. Right - I was like 6 mo. along and had gained maybe 10 lbs. I think I cried about that for the rest of the pregnancy. (....And we're still friends...)

Jess- I hope you don't mind...I used this illustration in a class I'm taking as a poor example of interpersonal communication. The class could not believe anyone would say that! It's a little humorous how people really don't think before they speak sometimes...I've been just as guilty as the next person.
It never hurts to hear it again...you're not fat!!!!!!!!
