Technologically Challenged.

Remember when the portable CD player used to be the super cool "it" thing to have? To own one was the most liberating thing. I remember how sweet it was to be able to take mine jogging and to the gym...complete with anti-skip and all ;) And in my loyalty, I will share for all to read...I STILL cart my portable CD player to the gym!!! In fact, until recently, I didn't even know what an ipod was! That's pretty bad. I don't own a cell phone either. I don't have a laptop. I have the classic black Dell computer monitor (NOT flat screen), and my printer is an old HP Deskjet 5500. Some would call my lifestyle archaic. I don't know what I'd call it, but sometimes...it makes me smile-especially when I'm running my little fanny off on the elliptical at the gym, complete with portable CD player and old-school headphones. I wouldn't have thought anything of it, except for that on more than one occasion there has been someone else on the elliptical beside mine with their cute little mp3 player and inner-earpieces. It's only then that I'm reminded of how ridiculous I must look in this modern world of fascinating technology...and then I smile...and can't stop. Why I smile I have no idea...it just strikes me as kinda funny on the outside looking in, comparing the two of us on our ellipticals. So with the inevitable risk of continuing to look like an idiot at the gym in the forefront of my mind, I've decided to look into these ipod things...or these mp3 player-ma-jiggers...

But until then, I'll have no choice but to keep carting my portable CD player to the gym and will probably still nervously smile when the other lady on the elliptical next to mine whips out her adorable little ipod shuffle and places her delicate ear pieces in her ears. And as if on cue, I'll make an embarassing adjustment to my headband headphones, and silently assure myself that perhaps one day I'll join the ranks of the "it" human race and own one of those cute contraptions too.

If you are wanting to save money for your first one Apple usually has refurbished ones for sale through their site. And if I was to buy something refurbished I would have no qualms about buying anything from Apple. :) You can usually get an iPod Shuffle for around $60. :) I hope you have a blessed day!

I'm with you - no ipod for me ('course Elliott is the guru of all things tech). And hey, it does help you save a lot of money - no ipod, flat screen, etc - it all adds up!

I can just picture you with your portable CD player. I finally got rid of mine, but I have yet to have the iPOD. I would like to get one, but then the next thing will be to have Ben (who is also a guru of all things tech!) give me a tutorial on how to download music. I figure if I can run a SMART board I can conquer the iPOD! Good luck in your endeavors!

basic mp 3 players only cost about 30 dollars and can you can pay a little more if you want and they do the exact same thing that an ipod does... what is in a name???

I got an Ipod nano to help with my teaching. Not having to deal with CD's anymore is really liberating. Being able to listen to a mix you make that instant is a lot better than having to listen to every album one at a time, or do the work to create a mix and then burn it.

So far ebay has had some really nice ones for cheap so it looks like I'll try to go that route eventually....!!! =) I don't need all the bells and whistles (and wouldn't know how to use them if I had them!)so the smaller the better for me, which seems to be the ones in my price range.
