Plastic Bags Blow?

Apparently they do, according to the popular website featured on The Today Show this morning. While I have to say "becoming green" or as I like to dub myself, an "Eco-Mom" is a bit daunting, I am definitely interested in what it's all about. And "Green Babies"-WHA!?! My kids and 'green' have been used in the same sentence before, but it's usually NOT anything that makes warm, eco-friendly fuzzies inside, which leaves me to wonder how big my carbon footprint really is? I'm practically an "Eco-Mom's" worst nightmare at this point. I mean, my kids have definitely contributed to the diaper pail junkyard (and you couldn't PAY me to switch to cloth diapers- God bless you dear moms that do that!), I've yet to switch over to those super cool, SUPER EXPENSIVE energy-saving (does that mean I get my money back!?!), twisty light bulbs, I use plastic garbage bags (and re-use them for small waste baskets-eek!), I drive a gas-guzzler of a loser-cruiser (clears throat) *mini-van*, AND I dry my clothes in a *gasp* dryer!! I know, right? PLUS I'm sure I've missed several hundred ways my family has contributed to the end of the world as we know it. But lately all that has begun to change...er, sort of. I'm trying to take baby steps here...don't want to erase too much of my carbon prints just yet. I am, however, trying to do my part. I went all green in my cleaning products and I'm not looking back on that one!! I can't stand the harsh chemicals in the regular cleaners, but the new line of Clorox Green Works cleaners has me cleaning up a storm (and loving every minute of it!) In fact...I've been cleaning more!

So all this to say, I hear you, Earth! You're sick of my "muddy sneakers" soiling your precious white carpet and I'm doing my part to help out...albeit (at this point) only a teensy-weensy bit. And while I have no intentions of becoming an obnoxious radical, demanding everyone go green or else, throwing my dryer and most electrical appliances out the nearest window and putting cutesy bumper stickers on my car that read "Plastic Bags Blow", I can assure the public that this mom is putting her best foot (green one, mind you) forward in becoming an "Eco-Mom". On the horizon: Re-usable shopping bags!

you know, for cleaning products, I use a microfiber cloth, baking soda, vinegar and water. There is nothing in my house that hasn't come clean with one or a combination of the above (with the odd bit of toothpaste thrown in for really stubborn stuff). MUCH cheeper than any cleaner, and no worries about Hana getting into it - I keep it with my baking stuff!!

As for cloth diapers, not nearly as gross or odd as people usually think. I'd much rather be flushing/washing away a mess than wrapping it up in plastic for safe keeping lol.

You go, green girl! (I know, corny.) Every little baby step helps. And using green cleaners not only helps the enviro, but is way safer for your family to breathe!

Good for you Jess! Once you start you'll likely become a bit addicted to finding more ways to become greener!!
And re-usable shopping bags...Fabulous second step!!!

(and those twisty light bulbs really DO last much longer...making them 'not so expensive' after all. We've had one room's bulbs that has lasted 2 years!)

Good for you Momma! Going green is good for the environment, but (in mind the best part) it's also better for your little ones. And baby steps are a start!

I love my cloth bags. In fact Kroger pays me 5 cents for each bag I use at every visit. Not a major savings, but I figure it will at least pay for my bags over time. Also Kroger is giving bags away with certain purchases this week. One of those purchases being the CFLs (the expensive lightbulbs) that are also on sale. I say, Go getcha some!

And cloth isn't as bad as it sounds. Even my very non-green, non-crunchy sister likes them! Hey, Mikey, He likes it!!

We need to get together soon. Now that the weather is (hopefully soon) getting warmer, maybe we can find a park half-way. What do you think?

just read this post and wanted to say the easiest and best way to help out the environment is to eat less meat. meat consumption is the number one contributer to global warming because of factory farms, though most news stations and the public won't tell you that. but good for you about taking steps to be green. Method is one of my favorite brands which does not test on animals and does not contribute to the messiness of the earth....completely safe for kids as well and smells good too! you can find it at Target primarily, online or some products are sold at Wegman's.
